About Us
Phlebotomy is one of the fastest growing job sectors of all medical occupations. Hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, blood donor centers, and other locations need phlebotomists to perform blood work. You will provide personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support, or other personal care to customers and patients.
If you like to help people, interact with patients, work closely with healthcare professionals and are exact and accurate, then this is a great entry-level career for you. As a Phlebotomist, you will have knowledge of the healthcare system, the anatomy and physiology related to laboratory testing and phlebotomy, the collection and transport requirements for tests performed in all areas of the laboratory, documentation and patient records and the interpersonal skills needed to provide quality patient care.
South Central College’s Phlebotomy Certificate helps you acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for becoming a specialist in obtaining blood specimens for the purpose of laboratory analysis. Upon successful completion of the program, and after completion of one full-time year of acceptable work experience as a phlebotomy technician in an accredited laboratory, you are eligible to take the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Phlebotomy Technician National Registry Examination administered by the Board of Certification (BOC).
Since much of the course work is considered “hybrid,” blending online material and face-to-face laboratory sessions, less time is spent on campus.
